Hi Ramji
I want to respond to last Sunday’s satsang. A woman called in to last Sunday’s satsang and said a few words that really got me thinking. I’ve been in the listening mode for many years now, which I’m totally fine with because a lot of the Sanskrit terms makes the teaching more complex for me so it takes me longer to sort things out, especially being brought up with dualistic thinking that is deeply embedded in my mind. Anyway this woman brought up the idea of the teaching being more user friendly. Sanskrit and technology go hand in hand for me as they both challenge me.
Bill Gates introduced the first computers for businesses and software world wide, and most people have adapted to it and then Steve Jobs with the Apple made it user friendly for the average Joe like myself.
I think you’re an incredible teacher!!! I couldn’t possibly think that someone could take the Sanskrit teaching and convert it over to a beautiful learnable way to teach this knowledge like you do. I believe I heard you say last week that you might be exploring the possibility of making the teaching a little more understandable for us, I would enjoy that with the understanding of how difficult that would be.
Love L….
Hi L….,
Thanks for reaching out. I assumed that the idea of non-duality was going in, but one never knows until one hears from the horse’s mouth. Appreciation is much appreciated!!! Yes, there is no way that anyone who doesn’t have deep *samskaras* from previous births in India is going to get the essence of Vedanta without a clear explanation of the concepts unless they are rendered in straightforward English. I was lucky because I had those past life *samskaras* and was completely uninterested in the world, so I’ve had nothing but a lot of time on my hands since 1965. Definitely not the average Joe story.
Anyway, setting up Vedanta for this generation and those to come has been an enjoyable task. I had plenty of time to indulge myself in various worldly things as well from the non-dual state of mind too, so no sense of virtue born of self-sacrifice goes with it.
I wouldn’t say that you will notice a big change in the teaching going forward, just more refinements. You’re definitely on the bus. A lot of small insights over time are best. Better, in fact, than a big exciting flash, which usually unflashes spectacularly with depressing results, followed by a one off declaration of enlightenment,
Think of the raft of Hindu and Buddhist export gurus, lamas, roshis and yogis who took the West by storm over the last fifty years, not to mention the Neo guys…God bless them…whose “teachings” more of les boil down to duality masquerading as non-duality. Where are they now? If Swamiji hadn’t predicted it, I wouldn’t have believed that thousands of non-Indian people worldwide would listen to traditional Vedanta daily via the internet. God is great!
Love,
Ram
