TEACHING TEXT – VIVEKACHUDAMANI

Join Ramji and Sundari in Bali for three immersive days in the priceless teachings of Vedanta.

  ~Vivekachudamani

The Crest Jewel of Discrimination

At its most basic level life is a transaction between a conscious being and the objects that it experiences. A human’s most difficult problem is attachment to the objects in the field of its awareness. An object is anything other than the subject, the self. Objects not only include physical things but subjective events: sensations, perceptions, emotions, thoughts and myriad states of mind. In short, experience itself. While this attachment feels extremely natural it is the cause of much suffering. Since suffering is not natural we are highly motivated to remove it.

Shankaracharaya’s  famous work, VIVEKACHUDAMANI, does not deal with the topic of karma in detail…how to get what we want from the world of objects. Instead, it focuses on qualifications required to commit to the method of discriminating the self from the objects that present themselves to it…after carefully examining the psychology of a committed inquirer who understands that freedom from dependence on objects is not obtained by action.

James and Sundari Swartz will unfold this most important text over the course of the 3 day seminar.  We recommend that people read the book ‘The Crown Jewel of Discrimination’ with the commentaries before attending the seminar. It is available for $10 on the Shiningworld website.

TEACHING SCHEDULE: To Be Announced

BY DONATION

The seminar is by donation as per the tradition of Vedanta.  Donation does not mean free as the correct protocol is for the student to make an appropriate donation to the teacher, who represents the timeless lineage of Vedanta.
